One of the most famous stories is that of Major Loftus, who was staying at Raynham Hall in 1849, and upon returning to her room one night with a friend named Hawkins, saw the woman with the famous dress disappear once approached her. Determined to confront her, he returned to the same place the next night and saw her again, but was shocked to notice that the place where his eyes should have been there were only two black holes.
